Chorus Anglicanum sing Rachmaninov's Vespers. 24th June 7.30pm, St Mary's!
Chorus Anglicanum (formerly The St Peter’s Singers) sang this wonderful work at the very first Maldon Festival ten years ago. They return to open this year’s festival, marking both the festival’s tenth anniversary and the centenary of the Russian Revolution. The All Night Vigil (Vespers) was composed and first performed in 1915; partly to benefit the Russian war effort. It was performed by the Synodal Choir of Moscow and ended up being the last great choral work to be composed and performed in Russia before the 1917 revolution.
